Susan Cuming is a recognized speaker/educator/trainer in the field of dementia and is a self-care health promoter and practitioner. Her Current role as an educator with the Alzheimer Society (Ontario, Canada) has given her extensive training in the area of healthy aging and brain change. She is a Positive Approach to Care* Independent Trainer and PAC* Presenter among a variety of other certifications in the area of dementia. Susan was trained by Duncan Cook (Leader Training) and Linda Leclerc (Teacher Training) in 2013. She has been offering Laughter Yoga in her community and with the Alzheimer Society since. She recently began offering 'Dementia Friendly Laughter Yoga', a normal not normal aging training for LY leaders, teachers and master trainers to better understand the changing brain and consider how they might adapt their laughter program for our aging population. Susan also offers further consulting services in the area of aging and dementia skill development.
Susan has also co-authored the train the trainer program for the 'Aging with an Intellectual Disability' a curriculum that is currently offered to cross-train agencies in the areas of aging and intellectual disability. She has taught Communication courses at Fanshawe College, Ontario, Canada and facilitated many Laughter and Wellness programs, half and full-day workshops including the popular, 'Laughter Wellness for Health Care Professionals'.
Susan has had the opportunity to laugh and learn with many different populations and groups including the Canadian Hearing Society, Indigenous groups, Adult Day Programs, Long-Term Care, Community Living, Addiction/Homeless & Mental Health Shelters, Hospice and of course those living with dementia.
Susan is a daily laugher, facilitates 2 weekly laughter clubs, (currently online) was a speaker at the 2016 Canadian Laughter Yoga Conference in Montreal and has been published in the Laughter Yoga International Newsletter.
Susan has trained many new Leaders from various health & community support organizations, coordinates the Haldimand Norfolk Brant Laughter Yoga & Wellness network & quarterly newsletter, and offers new leaders support, resources and opportunities to network and shadow.
For over 30 years Susan has been working and volunteering in her community. She is owner at Back in Play, an online health & wellness business offering fitness programs disguised as fun! She is a certified Qigong 24 Therapeutic Postures Instructor, Pound* & Generation Pound* Pro and has been offering these programs virtually since March when the studio she taught at closed due to Covid. Back in Play recently partnered with TFK Total Female Kickboxing to offer, 'Women's Virtual Gym' a, non-judgmental, supportive and engaging virtual exercise platform that welcomes women of all ages, shapes, sizes and fitness levels. And Yes! Laughter Yoga will be offered also!
